Setting up ODROID-U3 for Plex

Postby minikN » Mon Jun 09, 2014 12:16 pm

Hello guys,

I'm a happy owner of an ODROID-U3. I am kind of new to linux, however I still gave setting up arch linux a shot.
I installed this image on my ODROID: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/samsung/odroid-u3

I do not plan on installing a window manager, because I want to keep the system as tidy and fast as possible. However, it should be a plex client machine in the end, which brought me to the conclusion that I need to install a video driver for the Mali400 GPU.

After fiddling around with it for a couple of hours I finally managed to install this package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mali-firmware/

Did I do right, or is it the wrong driver package? I'm not currently sitting in front of the machine, but if you want, I can post a list of installed packages.

The next step, if I installed the proper video driver would be to change the resolution of the console. It's not displayed in it's native (1080p) resolution. Any thoughts on how to do that?

After that.. the next step is Plex. As far as I researched there is no precompiled PHT client for ARM devices. So I have to compile it myself. I already tried that and ended up with 5 errors, which was expected, but I'm not to worried about that now. Again.. I will post a list of error (I can't solve) when I come to that point.

But for now, I welcome every help regarding.. basically everything :)

Thanks!

IIRC, that "mali-firmware" is meant for AllWinner chips, not Samsung. Do a pacman -Ss odroid.

Also, that Mali GPU doesn't do video decoding, and is 3d-only so I fail to see how having that helps Plex.
