XORG on ODroid XU3

Postby poincare » Sat Feb 14, 2015 6:15 pm

Hello,

I am trying to install xorg on my ODroid XU3. Because I am not able to find any ARM specific instructions anywhere I am following the instructions on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xorg. When I issue pacman -S xorg-server, pacman asks the following:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
Resolving dependencies...
:: There are 5 providers available for libgl:
:: Repository extra
1) mesa-libgl
::Repository alarm
2) gpu-viv-bin-mx6q-dfb 3) gpu-viv-bin-mx6q-fb 4) gpu-viv-bin-mx6q-wl 5) gpu-viv-bin-mx6q-x11

Enter a number (default=1): ')

I'm not sure which one I should select. Does anyone know which is the correct number to select?

Is your GPU named anything like 'viv' ? Or your SoC have an mx6 cpu?

I installed ArchLinuxARM following the instructions at http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7 ... s-ui-tabs2

I believe the ODroid XU3 has a Mali gpu. I don't know what the viv is. The default specs, from the ArchLinuxARM page are:
Samsung Exynos5422 Cortex™-A15 2.1Ghz quad core and Cortex™-A7 1.5GHz quad core CPUs
Mali-T628 MP6(OpenGL ES 3.0/2.0/1.1 and OpenCL 1.1 Full profile)

Then you should be able to make an educated guess based on observed information.

Can anyone assist with what the correct xorg-driver for an Odroid XU3 is? There seem to be multiple ones supported.

And, it is not clear which driver is needed since there are drivers with both Odroid and Mail in the description. Further, unfortunately the armsoc drivers do not even have a description. i.e.,

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'alarm/xf86-video-armsoc-git 1:219.f16b5c8-2

alarm/xf86-video-armsoc-odroid 237.3bdf799-1
')

So, one cannot tell if they are applicable. Perhaps the armsoc-odroid is the proper xorg-driver for Odroid XU3s?

Does anyone know?

As far as i can tell the arch linux arm armsoc packages will get you a working x but you won't be able to get opengl es acceleration from them. I tried myself to get it working using the blobs from arm however I kept being told egl initialization failed.

I then found this thread on the odroid forums, using this repo X is working with opengl es acceleration. Also if you want opengl 1.x acceleration the glshim package there is probably quite useful.

I'll leave the git url and server url's here incase that thread goes missing for some reason:

I also have a U3, and have gotten software rendering working with armsoc from the alarm repository.

Not having any luck with GL using the packages from the ODROID forum.

Can you please give more details on what steps are needed? i.e. precisely which packages to install, and what xorg.conf looks like?

Thanks.
