Chromebook 2 13" - missing exynos_dri.so

Postby iourine » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:39 pm

Installing ARCH onto Samsing XE503C32 13" Chromebook 2 (Peach Pi, Exynos 5800). The basic installation is pretty smooth; now trying to run X.org. The error log on the display is

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'gbm: failed to open any driver (search paths /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri)
gbm: Last dlopen error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/exynos_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
failed to load driver: exynos
EGL_MESA_drm_image required.')
Indeed, the said file does not exist in the said place. Where to get the driver?

Additionally,

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[ 4790.278]
X.Org X Server 1.18.0
Release Date: 2015-11-09
[ 4790.279] X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
[ 4790.280] Build Operating System: Linux 3.10.82-8-ARCH armv7l
[ 4790.280] Current Operating System: Linux alarm 3.8.11-2-ARCH #1 SMP Wed Jul 15 18:57:38 MDT 2015 armv7l')
Can't there be more problems because of kernel version mismatch? There seems to be no 3.10 kernel available for this platform, 3.8.11-2-ARCH appears to be the latest.

There is no exynos_dri.so at all. Period.

Ok, then a little bit more general question: is it possible to run X on this device?

What driver are you using?

As I can judge by the debug messages, the thing is that X cannot find a suitable driver by default. On the other hand, there is the name of the driver module hardcoded in it - so, one can assume that such file does exist somewhere.

As of now, I merely installed the X.org and try to run it out-of-the-box. Shall I add something else? Or specify the driver (e.g. vesa) manually in xorg.conf?

xf86-video-armsoc-chromium should apply, IIRC

Nope... It just installs another pack of, apparently, video drivers to another directory (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/ instead of dri). Either no one suits, or X does not look into this directory at all. The error message is exactly the same as above.

Symlinking drivers/armsoc_drv.so to dri/exynos_dri.so makes a little change

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'gbm: failed to open any driver (search paths /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri)
gbm: Last dlopen error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/exynos_dri.so: undefined symbol: exaDriverAlloc
failed to load driver: exynos
EGL_MESA_drm_image required.')
It appears to be not the correct driver anyways.

pkgfile -s exynos_dri.so returns nothing.

Any more ideas how to run X ?

I'll say it again, there is no exynos_dri.so. Period. You're chasing a red herring.
