Overo serial and display issues.

Postby phelbore » Thu Feb 23, 2012 4:18 pm

I just got an Overo, and a palo43 and requisite touch screen. Long story short, screen doesn't work, so I'm doing everything from the serial console.

I can connect, watch it boot successfully into Arch with the SD card in, or Angstrom without, but I'm unable to actually enter any text. I can't break into uboot, I can't log in, it takes no input over the serial connection. I tried with multuuple usb cables, no go. I also tried a usb keyboard, which detects, according to the boot messages, but still won't let me type. Any ideas? Any info I can provide? I've tried with both picocom and minicom off a 3 or 4 day stale Archlinux install on my laptop.

Also, both the chip and expansion board get fairly hot. I can't help but think bad hardware.

No, however, I reseated the board after removing the spacers, and now I can give the board input, break into uboot and log in. Still no display, I think I got a bad one.

I noticed that one of the spacers had bent and twisted, I think it was stopping a pin from making a proper connection.

On an unrelated note, if anyone needs any testing done on the Overo Firestorm, let me know.
