Trouble booting Arch on Pandaboard ES

Postby Skillet » Sat Jul 21, 2012 9:02 pm

Hey all,

I am having a touch of trouble getting Arch to boot on my Pandaboard ES. I had Ubuntu working before but it was dreadful and I need Arch :) But I think that is a good indication that there is no problems with the SD card.

I have followed the instructions to the letter, and everything appeared to work regarding console output. I made sure to do everything as root, to copy the MLO file to the FAT partition as the first file and copy everything else later, to sync before unplugging the SD card, etc. but it doesn't boot. When I plug in the Pandaboard ES, only the one light comes on (both should light up) and I never get any output to the screen (not even blank, the screen just says "No input").

One thing I noticed is that the instructions say "FAT 16" but the script seems to be written to create a FAT 32 partition? It may not matter (or that may make no sense). But I thought I'd mention it.

Also, this is the output from mkimage:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
Image Name: boot.scr
Created: Sat Jul 21 15:38:45 2012
Image Type: ARM Linux Script (uncompressed)
Data Size: 161 Bytes = 0.16 kB = 0.00 MB
Load Address: 00000000
Entry Point: 00000000
Contents:
Image 0: 153 Bytes = 0.15 kB = 0.00 MB
')

Is the Load Address and Entry Point supposed to be 0? That may be right, I'm just trying to troubleshoot.

Here is the output of my xmkcard.sh:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '

Arch is the only distro for me and I really want to run it on my Pandaboard ES. Could I trouble someone to help me get it working? Thanks.

Do you have the ability to hook up a serial for some output? That would greatly help.

Ah, it turns out that I had mismounted the partitions when I was copying files to them, and I followed all the directions again with my new knowledge of mount and it works perfectly :D Thanks again.
