Postby Bobski » Sun Mar 24, 2013 1:24 pm

Firstly hi to everyone here newbie so be gentle please.
Its a really stupid question. wait for it lol

Ok got my cubox, it didnt work, booted up but red light stayed on. yep newby. with nothing happening.

Thanks to pepedog, (hes gonna see my name and run a mile lol) I went to archlinux and boot from microsdcard instead of what was supposed to be on the cubox. (dunno dont ask)

Now then, as I said I finally installed Arch onto my microcard and it boots up great, finally got it to boot yoooooo
BUT after booting I pacman it with updates etc installed gnome (everything)
it loads but then halts on a blinking at me at

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'r')eached target graphical interphase.

can anyone suggest what I am supposed to do lol
yes I have read every wiki there is and nothing says anything about this step.

so far I have followed
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_Guide
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/FAQ
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GNOME

I wrote you a long love letter here http://www.solid-run.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1218&p=6852#p6852 which I am going to paste below. Hit enter at that message, other things happened after login prompt

"Reached target Graphical interface", The thing is ready for you to log in, other things started carrying on starting up after the login prompt, press enter to see.
The way to install GUI is (you saw it in the wiki, and the wiki is wrong)
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -Syu
pacman -S xf86-video-dove lxde xorg-xinit')
Only one user is installed, and that is root with password root, check time and date is set with date command, change password with passwd
Add another user with useradd
If you want to run GUI (even as root, but not recommended)
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'xinit /usr/bin/lxsession')
If you want to boot to GUI type log in screen
systemctl enable lxdm
If you want to boot straight to a logged in user GUI, a little more complicated
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd/User#Auto-login
Edit - this will increase performance somewhat
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'systemctl enable vmeta-clk@667')

Thanks pepedog,
After i get the 'reached graphics I hit return or enter and it asks me for pass and login.
I try
xinit /usr/bin/lxsession I get unknow command or file.
Ill try again tomorrow as a bit out of it today, but thanks pepedog you are being very patient with me. :oops:
I shall try to be quicker on the enter button tomorrow but it does take me to root login

pacman -Syu
pacman -S xf86-video-dove lxde xorg-xinit

xinit /usr/bin/lxsession

Not many things installed for use in X
Here is a web browser
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -S midori')
and a big one, an "office" suite
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -S libreoffice ttf-dejavu artwiz-fonts')

This should be real basic. You have only one user at start, root
useradd bob
That should just work, answer all the questions. Make sure time and date is set first with date command

Well done, goat herder.
Why did you not mention flashing screens? It is a symtom of rubbish monitor or hdmi cable.
Auto login is easy
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LXDM#Autologin
Then you start service on boot
systemctl enable lxdm
