Pandaboard headphone jack distorted

I managed to get proper sound out of the pandaboard headphone jack once, but since I rebooted it sounds completely mangled again. I tried different settings in alsamixer, but unlike before that can't seem to fix it.

When I try the recommended config step
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'sudo alsaucm -c PandaBoard set _verb HiFi')
I get an error message:

Im setting defaults
