WL1271 on Pandaboard

Postby frasc » Sun Sep 20, 2015 5:20 pm

I have a Pandaboard rev A1. With latest kernel (4.2) I am not able to get Wifi nor BT to work.
The WiLink chip is simply not configured. The kernel message I get is:
[ 1.715606] reg-fixed-voltage wl12xx_vmmc: could not find pctldev for node /ocp/l4@4a000000/scm@100000/pinmux@40/pinmux_wl12xx_gpio, deferring probe

I would tend to believe it's a Device Tree issue. But debugging a Device Tree is not an easy task, if that's really a DTB problem.

Has anyone been able to configure and use the WL1271 on a Pandaboard (non ES) ? If so, have you done something to get it to work ? And what rev of the board was it ?

Note: rev A4 seems to be different enough to require it's own DTB file.

Thanks all,
frasc

Okay, it has nothing to do with the device tree, or at least not for the missing pctldev noted below: I played with dynamic debug and saw it was actually deferred and probed successfully later on.

I'm at a loss here: the problem (i.e. no Wifi nor BT) might well be caused by a missing 32k clock as pointed out by a kernel message:
[ 2.582916] twl6040 0-004b: clk32k is not handled

This seems to be an issue raised by some folks using OMAP5. They consider it as a regression:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/arm-kernel/msg446193.html

The bottom line is that it ends up with the kernel saying:
[ 3.038665] vwl1271: disabling

I have just tried a 2.6.35 from OpenEmbedded and got Wifi to connect to A.P. and transfer data.

At that point I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it spending time on that board ...
