Crash on XEV. "dmesg" show EDID & pending_hdp_event issue

Postby flaviofachin » Mon Jul 25, 2016 1:59 pm

I tried to type the command "xev", but somthing went critically wrong: the system crash and if i try to get back linux, all that i get is a lightly blinking on the screen.
fortunately my system is in dual boot with chrome os, so i can still enter on crosh shell.

I tried "dmesg" and I got a long list showing that "EDID" failing his checking and a "pending_hdp_event" that dosn't reach to be solved (i can not be more precise about that, because when now I reboot on chrome os, I just get a normal report).
After a little browsing on google i discovered that the problem is relate to I²C and for sure i am not able to deal with that.

Despite all even insalling everything is not possible for me, but this sould be discuss in another trend.

Be patient if was better to put this topic in the software section, but because all that appened at the first time that i tried the command "xev" (and i beleave that souldn't be any danger in it) I presume that is not wrong to suspect a hardware issue, at least associated.

Today I tried again to run the boot of ubuntu for regain the precise error messages that I got yesterday, but currently the system starts without problems (while yesterday boot had failed four consecutive times and I was pretty scared to try again, because the blinking was pretty scary).

The only question that remains open, then, is whether "xev" gives or not problem with acer CB5-311. For the moment I'm not going to try again the command.
If someone experiences something similar, please let given your experience on this tread.

Hi,
it is not entirely clear to me what your actual problem is. Which distribution do you refer to? ArchLinux ARM, ubuntu? your posts somehow mix up things here. Also, which kernel, xorg, and gpu driver do you use?

I have a running ArchLinux ARM instance running with my latest linux-nyan kernel, xorg-1.17-4, and gpu-nvidia-tegra-k1 release r21.5. With this setup, I don't see any problems related to xev, it seems to work perfectly fine.

Best,

This in about my kernel and about my cpu

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '$: uname -a

CPU min MHz: 204.0000')

I did open this tread, because my archlinux was complitely block and I could access just to chrome os.

I have had 4 consecutive attempts to boot with negative results, but the day late, everything worked fine by itself (perhaps it was that some process had somehow become harmful and warmed dangerously some component? Who Knows.. not me for sure!

I must say that later making other installation, I found to have internal conflicts with xorg.
Maybe it was that the cause of the issue... who knows me not por sure!

Anyway I'm still a beginner and i do not think it is useful to continue the tread...
Maybe it was the wrong think to do, but i decided to leave open the tread for see if anyone else had similar problems with xdev... but probably it is not.

however, i attach here in the folow, a fragment of a boot log that i had store in efi partition ( log_recovery/dmesg) where I found message, that seemes at the same point where the issue occured:
(i marked the precise point with *)

I'm look for the way to mark this tread as solved, but actually i don't see how...
(Or maybe sould i just insert it in the title?)
