libv4l

Postby Thor » Sat Jun 11, 2011 7:58 pm

I am trying to use a web camera on my Dockstar, using the software motion. It seems I need a package named libv4l. Any chance someone could build this?

When I use the software I get these messages:
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] Retrying until successful connection with camera
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] cap.driver: "ov519"
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] cap.card: "USB Camera (05a9:a511)"

Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] cap.capabilities=0x05000001
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] - VIDEO_CAPTURE
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] - READWRITE
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] - STREAMING
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] Config palette index 3 (JPEG) doesn't work.
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] Supported palettes:
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] 0: O511 (O511)
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] Unable to find a compatible palette format.
Jun 11 15:42:40 nas0 motion: [1] ioctl (VIDIOCGCAP): Invalid argument

Using google I found that libv41 is required. But I don't know if that is the real issue or not.

Oh, motion does work with the same camera on a Fedora system. But I want to see if I can use the Dockstar.

Thanks,
Thor.

pacman -S libv4l
or
pacman -S v4l-utils
Both install libv4l

[root@nas0 etc]# pacman -S libv41
error: target not found: libv41
[root@nas0 etc]# pacman -S v41-utils
error: target not found: v41-utils

I guess I am missing something else? Any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't know why it's not in the db, but this should install
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -U http://Arch Linux ARM.com/arm/extra/v4l-utils-0.8.3-2-arm.pkg.tar.xz')

Ok, it installed. Thanks.

But no luck with motion. I guess google failed me. :(

First, I don't know why you couldn't install libv4l, on another DS it picked it up.
Second, I have had motion running, can't remember details but it was easy(ish), and had to find a suitable camera.
I will look tomorrow
Edit, only changes to /etc/motion/motion.conf
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# v4l2_palette 8
snapshot_interval 10
target_dir /srv/http/cam1
webcam_localhost off
control_localhost off')
