Where to host widevine for ARM?

Postby mogwai » Thu Jun 06, 2024 11:27 am

For several years I've been maintaining the widevine AUR package. The main purpose of this package was to support installing the widevine cdm libs for ARM. However, a few days ago the package got deleted from AUR after it was flagged as ARM-centric (and hence out of scope for archlinux proper).

Looking at several recent forum posts (mostly in topics about glibc), there seems to be quite a few people using this, mainly on SBCs running kodi.

I'm currently mirroring and maintaining the PKGBUILD on codeberg:make_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'https://codeberg.org/mogwai/widevine', '', ' class="postlink"')
but this might not be very discoverable. Would there be any interest in hosting this (as PKGBUILD or as package) on ALARM infrastructure? Or at least to make it discoverable.

Hello mogwai

First of all, many thanks for your work on glibc-widevine and widevine on AUR!
To me, it would make sense to have your package into ALARM repo, but I am not in charge.

Do you know if there is an alternative solution ? I mean, why do we (ALARM user) have to package widevine, it should be done on the software level (Kodi, Firefox or whatever).
Why people on x86 do not have such problem ?

Do you know if one of all widevine available from Kodi interface (the one provided by CastagnaIT for example) is working properly or will one day ? Now that glibc is uptodate I don't see what is the remaining issue with Arch.
If so, maybe there is no need to package it in ALARM.
