SiriProxy

Postby amanpatel » Tue Jan 10, 2012 7:28 pm

Has anybody had any success installing SiriProxy (code at github url below) on a PogoPlug (armv5)?

https://github.com/plamoni/SiriProxy

I'd be interested in this. I'd be happy if this can become my siriproxy as I don't have to keep my iMac on all the time (save some serious wattage :-)).

I was thinking the same thing. A pogoplug would be a great device to run a siri proxy off of...

Yes, it works wonderfully! I just completed a lengthy tutorial on everything I had to do to get it to work for my specific situation:

Low power Linux servers ftw. :D

Thank you! I am glad I posted the request here.

Wonder if you had any trouble doing "rake install". I am getting the following output.

[root@alarm SiriProxy]# rake install --trace
siriproxy 0.3.0 built to pkg/siriproxy-0.3.0.gem
rake aborted!
Couldn't install gem, run `gem install /root/SiriProxy/pkg/siriproxy-0.3.0.gem' for more detailed output
....

And doing the "gem install" as above, tells me that I need ruby development tools. I tried searching via pacman -Ss but don't think ruby-dev comes as a pacakage on alarm.

Let me know if you installed another pacakage to bypass this.

The only packages with ruby in the title that are installed on my system are:

  • ruby 1.9.3_p0-3
  • ruby-ncurses 1.3.1-2
  • ruby-pkgconfig 1.0.7-3
Did you make sure to run:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'gem install rake bundler
')
to get both rake and bundler set up for ruby?

If it helps, I also have the following gems installed - you can check via $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'gem list --local')
  • bigdecimal (1.1.0)
  • bundler (1.0.21)
  • CFPropertyList (2.0.17)
  • eventmachine (0.12.10)
  • geocoder (1.1.0)
  • io-console (0.3)
  • json (1.5.4)
  • libxml-ruby (2.2.2)
  • minitest (2.5.1)
  • pkg-config (1.0.7)
  • rake (0.9.2.2)
  • rdoc (3.9.4)
  • siriproxy (0.3.0)
  • uuidtools (2.1.2)

I got it working. It turns out you need base-devel pacakages so gem can build the extensions

$ pacman -S base-devel

(hit enter for "all")

"doh"

I am still very glad you posted your experience on your blog. It helped a lot.

Awesome! I didn't realize that was a necessity, but it's good to know. I've updated the blog post to reflect that.

Of course, now that SiriServer has been released, it's only a matter of time before we get a fully functional replacement for Apple's Siri servers that negates the need for a proxy or even a 4S device. All that's left are plugins! I've got SiriServer running on my PogoPlug (alongside SiriProxy), and I've started working on replacements for the features I use most. I've got a rudimentary timer plugin completed already ("Set a timer for 5 minutes").
