Arduino or binutils-avr

I'd like to use the Arduino IDE on a Raspberry pi for numerous reasons. I could even use just the command line tools to compile and load code onto an arduino board without the IDE, but I've not been able to get binutils-avr (a dependency for gcc-avr) or libc-avr to compile thus far.

I'd be happy to help - I just don't know where to start.
