Arch Linux ARM sharing/samba question

Postby Succorso » Sun Jan 22, 2012 7:14 pm

I installed Arch Linux ARM and have it working on my pogoplug but I am having trouble figuring out how to share a directory with other computers or dlna.

I have an external hard drive with movies on it that I want to share with other computers and watch using dlna on my xbox360.

I mounted the hard drive and can see the contents when I run ls. However, I cannot figure out how to share the files. When I click "browse" in Arch Linux ARM it does not show any directories or files and when I click "shares" it shows "No shares entered, visit the file browser to share a file"

How can I setup Arch Linux ARM/samba to share /opt/movies/imovies? Or do I need to mount it another way?

Thanks from an ultra-newbie.

You're probably running the old packaged version of plugui (which is what that web interface is called), and there's a high probability you're using Internet Explorer to access it which usually doesn't work :D

The share stuff in plugui is unrelated to samba/dlna, it's a simple way to share single files with people over the internet, and some of the pieces that make it all work smoothly are currently broken (has to do with the way individual plugs are identified for the pseudo-DNS service at http://plugfinder.appspot.com).

If you're just interested in setting up minidlna and samba, follow these guides: http://archlinuxarm.org/support/guides/applications

If you have trouble with those post back here or stop in the IRC room and i'll help you.

PlugUI is still being worked on and overhauled but at the moment you shouldn't rely on it especially if you use internet explorer :)

Thanks for the quick reply.

I noticed it did not work in IE so I have been using chrome. It looks awesome, especially for a *nix newbie like me.

I'll take a look at the samba and minidlna instructions.
