pogoplug pink noob, killed his hard drive, lost SSH pass!

Postby dc2bar » Thu Nov 24, 2011 2:06 am

So, I successfully flashed my pink pogoplug, had arch up and running as a LAMP server like a dream. All was going well until my hard drive decided it wanted to grenade itself.

Also, being the genius that I am, I apparently forgot my SSH password to SSH into my pogoplug directly. Now I have a pogoplug pink that lights up, but no HDD image for uboot to boot up, and I can't SSH in to go through the tutorial to set up another drive.

Is there anything I can do short of ripping the thing apart and using a serial cable?

Any help at all is much appreciated. Thanks!

p.s. happy turkey day!

If you were running Arch Linux ARM, and that hard drive died, you're NOT booting into ALARM, but into the factory rootfs.

Simply extract the armv5te tarball onto a new ext2 drive, as root not sudo! You can do this from any linux live cd, installation, etc.

hmm, i've done that, but after a new drive, running through the format to ext2, untarballing, syncing, and plugging it into my pogoplug and restarting both, it keeps saying root@ip with password root is incorrect

Any way to tell what the heck is going on? my.pogoplug.com can't find it either so maybe it's not running in stock?

Have you tried password ceadmin or root

Yes, i've tried the default ceadmin.

I am a genius and changed it to a more secure one on first setup, then proceeded to install archlinux.

Problem is, I forgot what I changed it to =/

Now, with several new external HDDs properly formatted, I can't get it to boot into arch. I can ssh root@pogoip and get a prompt, but ceadmin and root don't work, so it leads me to believe it's booting into factor rootfs as warhead said. I can't reset the ssh password through my.pogoplug.com, though, as it no longer connects to that as a result of uboot i believe.

So, i'm kind of in a catch 22 where I can't get it to boot into linux, but can't access it at all to get logs or see anything.

Maybe it's best if I just flash the damn thing back to stock and start all the way over? I understand I need a serial cable, but am not sure what to do from that point. Can anyone point me in the right direction? If not, i'm seriously going to take my shotgun to this thing and call it a day =/

please disregard. I got so frustrated with the damn thing I quite literally took it out back and put it out of my misery. Will be ordering a replacement tomorrow.

Sorry, but I have to LOL at that :) There have been days I've felt like doing that so some devices I own.

Hi,
I'm in the same situation. Anyone have a good idea? Earlier it was mentioned that the arm5te tarball can be exracted on to a new flash drive, Can someone please explain that in a little more detail since I'm new to Linux.
Thanks

Ok. I figured it out, and used a lubuntu live cd to extract the tarball to a usb drive and have archlinux running again. Thanks for the help here.
