unable to update system - gcc dependancy error

Hello,

I've been trying to update my system for some time, but I am getting the following error.

I have run:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
pacman -Scc
')

Before trying to run the following command.

Say no to upgrading pacman first.

What should I say here? will it break my boot / kernel ?

If you're using kernel26.. you haven't upgraded in a long long long time. Things might break, but probably not.

I tried to move /etc/mtab to /etc/mtab.backup, but then it complains about not being able to determine file system mount points... help!

pacman -Syuf

Some files have changed package ownership. Also, if you start arbitrarily deciding that you don't want to upgrade the kernel, then you can really expect things to break. And that's where help stops.

I am just a bit paranoid about bricking this thing

It is nearly impossible to brick anything with what we do. That term is thrown around too loosely.

I concur!! Worst case scenario, you have to get the serial cable out.
Most of the time though, you just have to reinstall

You will need serial cable if you mess up bootloader. Since updates don't mess with it you can't brick anything.
