USB Ethernet adapter -- Possible?

Postby Sinatics » Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:12 am

I'm attempting to replace a linux box in my house with a pogo plug. Currently that linux box has 2 Ethernet interfaces, one is used for downloading using my apartment's internet connection, the other connects to my network with dns disabled to prevent it from using my personal internet connection but allow me to access files on the machine via a network share in samba.

I would like to try and replicate this setup on my pogoplug (essentially 1 Ethernet adapter for internet and one for a network share on my personal network.)

The USB Ethernet adapter I have is this one. I tried simply plugging in the usb adapter and running an ifconfig to see if the current modules for the integrated Ethernet adapter would work but it doesn't look to be that simple. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Did you by chance try 'ifconfig -a'?

I do know for a fact that the ASIX ones work fine. If your's does not work, check for any random errors in dmesg. Look up the vendor and product codes in lsusb. Find out what driver it uses and check if that device is A) supported in Linux, B) Configured to be built into the kernel

It showed up in a ifconfig -a :D the lsusb info for it is
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0fe6:9700 Kontron (Industrial Computer Source / ICS Advent) DM9601 Fast Ethernet Adapter
') and looking at the github config it looks like DM9601 is supported. Thanks for the help! :)

This little pogoplug hasn't ceased to amaze me yet, its such a powerful little device! :)
