Minimum size USB drive

Postby cadteach » Sun Dec 30, 2012 4:19 pm

I'm looking to install A.L.ARM onto a pogoplug I picked up for cheap. I'd love to be able to set it up as a server that allows printing/scanning from a old HP multifunction. I know the drivers for sane and for printing are available, and the machine works fine when hooked up to a PC, but I'd like to have it on something that doesn't use so much electricity when we use it.

Wondering if I can get by with a 4 GB usb drive for the installation, or is there somewhere which shows minimum requirements for drive size? I've used linux for quite a few years now, and it seems like the Wiki for this is very clear, so the installation doesn't worry me, and SSH'ing in isn't a concern.

Thanks,

Ed

4GB should be plenty for a base install & some tooling around. Pay attention to disk usage over time, and remember: NO SWAP ON FLASH!

You can even bring alarm up on a 1GB drive with 200 MB or so to spare. I use such a drive as emergency to boot if my main drive has a problem or I want to e2fsck the main drive. 4 GB is fine unless you want to store large media files.
