anything better than putty.exe to communicate

Postby pjmpjm » Mon Jan 28, 2013 10:55 pm

hi everyone

i just modified my pink pogo v2 as per instructions on this site.
i was doing the mod from another site when i hit broken links - panicked a little -
found this site and followed instructions here. from the first site i had expected (mistakenly?)
to get the original pogo functionality when booting without usb stick - and to
get the new linux(debian?) when booting with usb stick - not so with this version (i see this later).

now the pogo site does not see the box when booted without the usb - but there is
still a running os.

when booted with usb i get:

root@alarm ~]# uname -a
Linux alarm 3.1.10-15-ARCH #1 PREEMPT Wed Dec 12 15:25:18 UTC 2012 armv5tel GNU/Linux

so everything looks ok - i just need to do something with it

Question: is there anything better than putty.exe to communicate with pinky?
is there a gui that can use the network to an XP client?

Question: how can i transfer files/folders from pinky to XP?

i can see the source code in /usr/linux but i cant get it on my XP machine where
im familiar with things. i tried three freeware programs to read the usb drive without success
one just fails - another can read the disk but does not allow copy etc - the last one suggests
reformatting the disk with smaller inodes. windows is all for formatting

thanks in advance

2 Options:
Install samba on the plug.
Use WinSCP on your XP machine to browse files on the plug.

Thanks for replies

SCP worked but not without timing out and restarting several times??
did not try sshfs

putty can be made alot more tolerable by exploiting a few of its features.

set up a session as you like it
go to logging

put '&M&D&T' in the log file name - this makes files unique and ordered so no overwriting
or annoying prompts. check printable output or whatever you want

go to appearance
change font type and size

you can change the number of lines you can scrollback in Window

change anything else and
go back to session
type a saved sessions file name and save

i recommend not using the Default Settings as it seems to behave strangely to me

only after save should you open

i have dhcp on a small network so a couple of files with different ips works for me

when using putty select a session file - load - and open

put putty in its own folder - all the log file are tucked away here and can be ordered by name

the full story is here
