Samba and miniDLNA issues on new Arch install {Pogoplug E02}

Postby Patrick117 » Thu Feb 07, 2013 6:27 am

Hello, all. New to the forums here - and to linux for that matter. I setup ALARM on my Pogoplug E02 without issue following the installation guide and wiki. I mounted a ntfs drive to /etc/media/externaldrive. Afterwards, installed samba and setup the following config file:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
netbios name = NAS
name resolve order = bcast host lmhosts wins
security = user
server string = ArchNAS
local master = Yes
os level = 33
wins support = Yes
dns proxy = No
passdb backend = smbpasswd
passdb expand explicit = No
load printers = no
printing = bsd
printcap name = /dev/null
log file = /var/log/samba/$m.log
max log size = 50
dns proxy = no
hosts allow = 10.0.0.
socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_KEEPALIVE SO_RCVBUF=131072
smb ports = 445

[EXTERNALDRIVE]
path = /etc/media/externaldrive/
guest ok = yes
read only = no
public = yes
writeable = yes
browsable = yes
create mask = 0666
directory mask = 0777
')

Devices:
WinXP SP3 virtual machine - able to see the externaldrive share, browse, write, and copy files.
Windows 7 Desktop SP1 - able to see the externaldrive share, browse, write, and copy files + access miniDLNA server.
Windows 7 Laptop SP1 - able to see the externaldrive share, can only browse down 2 directories, then the share locks up and errors out with the message "Share name is no longer available". Also, cannot see miniDLNA server with this device.
Android 4.0 - Same thing as laptop. Can only browse first couple of directories, then connection times out / or fails.
Panasonic TV - cannot see miniDLNA server.

In a nutshell, my Windows 7 desktop seems to be the only device working properly. Also, all computers are using the SAME Username and password, all on WORKGROUP. Does anyone have any ideas on where I went wrong? I have followed the samba and minidlna wiki guides almost exactly, and still no luck. Any help is much appreciated :)

If your XP, win7 desktop, and Pogo are on the wired lan and the win7 laptop, android, and tv are on wireless, perhaps you're having some networking issues. If that's the case, plug the laptop on the wired network and see if the issue persists.

I was thinking the same, maybe the router blocks UDP broadcast datagrams to wireless interface (some do not to flood wireless)

Alright, so the laptop DOES work on the wired network! So We've narrowed it down to the router blocking UDP traffic via wireless. How can I change this? I'm using the Netgear WNDR3400 stock firmware.

I don't want port forwarding because I have more than one wireless device. Any suggestions on how to correct this?

I would look in the router manual for something like " Filter UDP Broadcast", or flash it with dd-wrt, your router seems to be supported (if it's a v1).
