I've had one Pogoplug v2 (E02) on my network for about a year now and overall I'm moderately satisfied with it. I recently purchased another to play around with and hopefully get around some of the shortcomings of the Pogoplug software. I've played around with linux (mainly Ubuntu and Mint) a few years ago but still consider myself a newbie so before I start messing with the Pogoplug I was hoping someone could chime in on if I'll be able to get it to do any of the below by loading Archlinux on it and what package(s) this would require.
1. Allow it to become a better "music server" that I can access through Android. The android Pogoplug software takes forever to load a (large) directory, will not search recursively, does not have the ability to create playlists, and will not play FLAC files, which is what my CD collection is ripped in. I suppose this would need to be a two part solution as the software on the phone would need to be able to save the directory structure and files internally or it will still take forever to get to a particular song.
2. Become a printer server for a Cannon (USB interface) multifunction device (with scanner support). I'd like to be able to print and scan to/from multiple computers on the network. Presently I've been using a Linkskey device but it has severe limitations and the software refuses to run on my work laptop. I know the printer part sould be relatively straightforward but not sure about the scanning.
3. Serve a webcam/microphone.
4. Other cool things that Archlinux on a Pogo would allow me to do (is there is a list somewhere?).
Thanks in advance for your advice.
