Pogoplug v2 fails to reboot

Postby konradsa » Sat Mar 16, 2013 11:22 pm

Hi,

I just installed ArchLinux on my Pogoplug v2, and it works so far, but I have an issue with reboots. When I reboot via /sbin/reboot, very often the box does not boot successfully. It just seems to hang. I am more successful when I either boot to the original pogo software and reboot from there or if I do a hard reset (pull the power cord). Then it seems to book successfully about 90% of time. I am using a generic 2 GB USB stick, but I have also tried a premium 16 GB USB stick and had the same results.

I have already tried the following to no avail:
1) Make sure to sync before reboot
2) Set the usb_rootfstype to ext3
3) Update to the latest kernel/uboot
4) Setup the parititons in /etc/fstab

All to no avail. Has somebody else had the same issue and successfully addressed it?

Anytime I used a USB stick I had similar results. However with a USB hard drive, it consistently boots.

I was having a similar problem where half the time it would boot into what's left of the original pogoplug os.
I'm not sure if that's your issue, but moving my USB flash drive to the port next to the ethernet cable fixed that.

I also had an issue where it appeared to hang. but actually dhcp was giving it another address. Looking in the router you could see what it got. Following the directions on here for static ip fixed that one.

Now she always boots to the proper usb stick even though other hard drives also have unix boot partitions. As long as it's in that one slot, it seems to choose the right drive.

I did read in my troubleshooting that some people had problems with certain brands or models of flash drives even in the right slot, so if all else fails try another stick. I'm just using the cheapest sandisk 8gb I could find, nothing special.

Thanks, I figured it out. Two things I did: Change IP to static, and change the NTFS filesystem on a primary partition of the hard disk to ext3 on an extended partition. Now it boots every time.
