Pogoplug v2 pink installation, please help.

Postby gookank » Sun Mar 31, 2013 7:22 am

I have pogoplug v2. I want to install arch arm but I do not have ethernet switch. I cannot connect pogoplug to internet and activate ssh. My only option is to install arch arm through tftp and serial console. I can access pogoplug serial console but that's all. I don't know what to do next. After I install arch arm I will connect it to my wifi network using a usb wifi dongle but that is anther story. Can you explain me how to install arch arm to pogoplug using serial console and tftp? Thanks.

I believe you have to have ethernet access anyway because with serial you still need to load u-boot image over tftp. You either need a jtag or get an Ethernet to WiFi bridge (or make one with help of dd-wrt with any supported broadcom router). I don not know how to jtag it, and from past experience with other hardware it will be difficult. My recommendation is to get the Ethernet to WiFi bridge.

Edit: you can setup your computer to share wifi connection.

If you still want to go serial/tftp way: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,6965

Thanks for your reply. Can't I do it with my laptop only? My laptop can be a tftp server and I can connect pogoplug to my computer through ethernet port. The only problem is that, I do not know the default ip address of the pogo device. When I connect it to my computer, it should have and ip address. Even though it searches for a dhcp server after some time it should assign itself a default ip. I tried it and used nmap to scan 169.254.0.0/16 range but no device were found. Maybe I can control it using serial console and assign an ip address.

One way: http://www.dhcpserver.de/dhcpsrv.htm
The other way is to bridge your WiFi and Ethernet adapter on the laptop so that Pogo gets access to the DHCP server that you have on WiFi.
