GoFlex Net with RAID over gigabit LAN

Postby gawd » Tue Apr 02, 2013 1:53 am

Has anyone successfully set up a GoFlex net on RAID? If so, how fast are the transfer rates? I currently have a WD Black 2.5" drive (ext2 partition) connected on one of the SATA ports, and I get 45MB/s uploading to the drive, and 50 MB/s downloading from the drive....I'm now thinking about getting another one.

What protocol are you using for data transfers? Likely the cpu will be the bottleneck and it may even decrease throughput because of added software raid overhead.

Using ftp (vsftpd on the goflex net without encryption). I tried samba as well, it appeared to go just as fast.

I have never used raid before, I am curious how much performance I can squeeze out of the goflex net. From experience, ext2 is the filesystem of choice for low-cpu powered devices. Someone out there must have done it!
