Restore GoFlex Net after unsuccessful Squeezeplug installati

Hi, all

I had a GoFlex Net running ArchLinux ARM from a SATA drive, and I tried installing Squeezeplug. Here's what I've done:

1) I ran fdisk on my 2 SATA drives, creating two empty partitions. I did not change anything in uBoot, since the instruction seemed to suggest to do things I've already done for my ArchLinux installation.
2) I flashed Squeezeplug on a USB drive
3) I rebooted my NAS.

It flashes green, no error indication on LED. However, I cannot reach it over SSH. My router doesn't show an IP attached to this device in DHCP table, so I tried assigning one manually to GoFlex's MAC address.

I also tried some alternative images for my USB stick (some suggested using ZyXEL NSA320 image), no success.

What can I do to at least revert my NAS to ALARM? I really don't want to make a serial cable.

I would start with netconsole under advanced tab. There are also many topics on this in the forum. If you have UBIT then it's looking for a partition with a label "rootfs" and since you wiped the partitions, you lost the label. That's probably your problem.

That is one way. If you do it this way then you'll need a crossover ethernet cable. You can just connect to the same switch. Actually I would just try labeling the partition "rootfs" wher you have your OS installed first and see if that boots.

Thanks, all. I've actually gone a simpler route. I followed the guide in moonman's signature:

1) created a LiveUSB image for my Mac
2) attached my first Seagate drive using the stock USB connector (really handy)
3) created the necessary partition using fdisk, attached the bootable flag, formatted it to ext3, then set the label:

4) reattached the drive to my Mac (still, running Ubuntu) and cd'ed to it
5) downloaded the ALARM rootfs:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'wget http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM-armv5te-latest.tar.gz
')

6) extracted the image:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'tar xvzf ArchLinuxARM-armv5te-latest.tar.gz
sync
rm ArchLinux*')
7) unmounted the disk and attached to GoFlex Net (right slot). Worked like a charm.

So, yeah, I could not switch to Squeezeplug, but at least I got GoFlex working with no extra equipment (serial cable/crossover Ethernet cable, etc).
