GoFlex Net randomly disconnects

Postby rogerdygas » Wed Mar 13, 2013 8:58 am

I have a GoFlex Net with the latest version of alarm installed on USB, along with minidlna, transmission and smb. All my music etc is stored on a sata HD

The problem I have is after a while my goflexnet goes offline, I cant ssh to it, connect to samba or pogoplug. The front light stays on as usual. I have checked my router and it is not lost my internet connection, the only way to get pogoplug working again is to reboot.

Is there any logs I can look at, or does anybody have an idea of what's wrong?

Your help is greatly appreciated

I have also added the GoFlex net's op address to the dmz list of my router so the firewall of my router shouldn't be affecting it although I didn't think that was the problem due to lan traffic not getting through to.my GoFlex net.

I think putting it into DMZ is a bad idea.

How did you assign the IP for your Goflex? Did you configure it with a fixed IP or did you use your router DHCP service to reserve and asssign a fixed IP to it? If you configured your GF with a fixed IP, you have to make sure the IP is not within your router DHCP range or you may end up having a conflicting IP.

I think your right rty, enabling dmz for my GFN is not a good idea but for some reason I couldn't connect to transmission via my smartphone unless I did I opened all the relevant ports.

I used my router to assign a static IP I wouldn't know hot to.do.it within ALARM. I like your thinking though I probably wouldn't have thought about an IP address conflict.

Does anybody else know how I might be able to sort this, or know where I can.find logs?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('rogerdygas', 'b')ut for some reason I couldn't connect to transmission via my smartphone unless I did I opened all the relevant ports.

When at home using smartphones to connect to Goflex, make sure the smartphone connects through your home wifi, not through 3G/4G/GPRS/Edge internet, but I guess you already know that.

If you want to connect to Transmission on your Goflex from outside through the internet, you must set up port forwarding at your router to the Goflex. The default port number of Transmission is 9091, so choose a higher number port on your router, say 62222, and forward it to 9091 of your Goflex net. If you set the port forwarding correctly, you can access your Transmission from anywhere by using address like http://your-router-external-IP-address:62222

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('rogerdygas', 'I') used my router to assign a static IP I wouldn't know hot to.do.it within ALARM. I like your thinking though I probably wouldn't have thought about an IP address conflict.

The logs can be found in /var/log directory.

Can you ping your Goflex from your other computer?

Thanks for telling me where I can find the logs. I have looked and the last entrys before it stops responding to everything are

May 2 16:09:04 alarm systemd[1]: Stopping Graphical Interface.
May 2 16:09:04 alarm syslog-ng[117]: syslog-ng shutting down; version='3.4.1'

Does anybody know what these are all about?

I have also tried stoppig services (samba, webmin, samba and pogoplug, ntp) individually to see if that helps but no luck, I have also stopped a scheduled item due to the crashing happening every hour
