[SOLVED]PogoPlug Mobile Installation Issue

Postby lastcode » Thu Feb 07, 2013 3:52 am

Hello everyone,

I'm following (http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... g-series-4) to install Arch on my PogoPlug Mobile (POGO-V4-A1-01). It works perfectly fine until I reboot. My flash drive never flashes, perhaps implying that the OS is never loaded from the flash drive, so it blinks forever. The "revert" folder trick works just fine and I can bring my pogoplug back from the "dead" land.

I'm using a Lexar 32GB flash drive I bought from Office Depot as my main hard drive. Is there a problem I should know of with my model or do I just have a bad flash drive or something else ? I've left my system for 1 hour and nothing is resolved. Router side though it does get an address. I can't SSH to it with it.

I've checked the drive and the Arch files are correctly placed on the drive and the partition is indeed a primary one.

Just try a different flash drive. Some don't work for booting. Also, stop reverting it. Just use your computer running linux. IF you don't stop, you will eventually brick it because you are rewriting bootloader. If something goes wrong then you will need to jtag it.

Bought a drive and it worked. Yeah I don't intend to do it more than three times. Didn't realize some flash drives are not created equal. Thanks again

Lastcode,
I'm also interested in in using the Pogoplug Mobile version, since it's still available.

Have you gotten the SD card slot to work?

The negative item with this device is it only has one USB port. I was thinking of using this as a webcam host, but then I might be trying to use up too much of the USB bandwidth. If I use a USB hub, the storage USB drive and the USB webcam would be on the same USB link. Maybe if I put the image storage memory on SD card instead, there would be less overload.

Although, it's also possible the SD card bus and the USB bus are the same, so whatever bandwidth is available won't change just by utilizing the SD card slot.

Have you used Arch Linux on other Pogoplug devices? Like the classic one? (E02)? Just wondering if Arch Linux behaves any different on the Mobile vs. the Classic.

The SD is on a different bus entirely.
