Pogoplug 4 (ARMv5) will not boot with USB 3.0 HDD connected

Postby bferg88 » Thu Jun 20, 2013 4:59 pm

Version:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Linux alarm 3.1.10-20-ARCH #1 PREEMPT Sat May 18 14:37:07 UTC 2013 armv5tel GNU/Linux')

With a USB 3.0 HDD (Seagate Backup+) plugged into either of the USB 3.0 slots, the device will not appear on the network and presumably has not booted properly.

With USB 2.0 HDD and USB 2.0 flash drives the device booted properly, therefore I believe the problem is related to the USB 3.0.

Both HDDs use the MBR partition table.

Can anyone else confirm this problem, or suggest evidence that it's not a USB 3.0 thing?

More trials:
1) Used a USB 2.0 cable to connect the HDD (Seagate Backup+) and boot was successful.
2) Plugged in a USB 3.0 flash drive and boot was successful.

Why would only a USB 3.0 HDD cause the boot-loader to crash?

I currently have 2 USB3 HDD attached to my Pogoplug4 (a WD My Passport 500Mb for /home and a WD My Book 2Tb) and I haven't any issue.
I use noatime and nofail in fstab.
