wireless USB adapter competes with USB webcam

Postby permitivity » Sat Aug 10, 2013 4:05 am

Hi,
Weird issue I'm having. I have a USB webcam and a USB wireless adapter plugged into my ArchLinuxArm pogoplug. On power up, the Pogoplug is suppose to run "Motion", and the wireless USB adapter is suppose to connect to network. It seems that the sequence of USB bus access sometimes (about 70% of the time) prevents Motion from connecting to the webcam while the wireless USB adapter starts up or is in the process of connecting. That's my guess anyways.

If I unplug the wireless USB adapter and wait for Motion to come up, the webcam works and Motion runs fine. Then if I plug in the wireless USB adapter, it connects to the network and everything is fine. It's only if they're both plugged in at the same time that I have issues.

Is there an easy way to delay either the wireless connecting on powerup or delay Motion from starting right after power up? Is there some flag in "systemctl" to inject a delay?

I'm a Linux newbie. I'm trying to make this into a reliable thing, so it powers up and connects without hiccups.

Thanks.
