installed on seagate goflex home--now what?

Postby aliron » Mon Oct 07, 2013 4:48 am

After installing into my Goflex Home, I am at a lost at what to do next. I installed samba and xorg, but have no idea how to set up samba or anything else, really. I just want to be able to use my hard drive as an unpassworded NAS, but I don't know how to access it besides SSH.

I apologize if this is answered somewhere already--I searched the beginner's guide and the forums and found nothing. What are we supposed to do after installation to access the hard drive in outside of ssh?

I did a

pacman -S samba

what do I do after that? I read the samba article in the wiki, to create a share I "Edit /etc/samba/smb.conf, scroll down to the Share Definitions section."

do I just type that into the terminal? Is there an article on how to navigate the edit interface, or another way to edit that file? I don't know how to scroll anywhere.

I apologize for not being able to be any clearer--I'm obviously in way over my head but there's no turning back now. If you can point me to some resources I'd appreciate it.

I usually use "nano" to edit files.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'nano <file to edit>')

If it is easier for you, use WinSCP and login like you would with ssh.
