Power off Goflex Home (also valid for other devices)

Postby visiedo » Tue Dec 10, 2013 4:43 pm

Hi,
I just installed archlinux in my Goflex Home, it worked like a breeze and honestly I am having a lot of fun ;-)

I just wonder how does it work in practice with the power off. Usually, to properly sync all disks and gracefully shut down a linux OS you should use a "shutdown / halt" command. Nowadays I always do that since I am still working a lot on the terminal.

Once the box is closed and used as a media server and time capsule I will not ssh the goflex just to shut it down. Is it safe to use the power button? Isn't it a risk for the integrity of the file system?

Thanks guys
/Javier

it is a risk and we do recommend to shut it down properly. This device is supposed to be on 24/7 though

Thanks moonman, that is what I suspected. Still I would like to configure some power setting to sleep the SATA after some time not being use. I will browse the forum, I am sure there are some answers. Any quick advise?

A cron command would also be beneficial to reboot the OS periodically.

You don't need the leading systemctl
