Remote Pogoplug stops responding, Arch or Router or ISP?

Postby gotcha640 » Mon Dec 30, 2013 11:24 am

Hi all

I've used this site to get a pogoplug E02 set up running samba to stream to raspbmc for my family, and it all works great. I've learned there's a lot more to linux than just ubuntu.

I've set up no-ip on the plug, and forwarded port 22 to allow me to ssh from outside. It's been great to be able to make basic changes when I'm away, or get access to files.

I've had an intermittent problem with access. I can be logged in through the chrome ssh addon, get a lot done, log out while I go to lunch, and no more access. No ping, port shows closed through various port checkers, no response by any of the methods I know (ssh in chrome, winscp, android juice ssh).

This usually resolves it self after 30-45 minutes, which is certainly better than not resolving at all, but still enough to make it not really reliable.

The modem is a technicolor combo dsl modem/router, and I can log in to it and see that the port is still forwarded properly. It's got the basics of configuration, but it's nothing fancy.

So, where do I start in figuring out what the problem is?

Likely your ip lease expires and you get a new public ip which takes a while to propagate to the servers. Could be something else, but I would check this first.

Thanks for the reply, I'll check it out. I feel like there have been times when it was the same IP before and after, but I can't be sure.
