E02 brick?

I got a new E02. I format a 4GB USB stick to ext3 and follow installation instruction. Everything looks fine until I reboot the pogoplug. The light is solid green but I can't ssh into it. However I can successfully ping it. If I boot it without USB stick, it's the same (solid green light, can't ssh but can ping). When I login to my.pogoplug.com, the site says the device is offline.

I tried to view the file in the USB stick from other linux box (I have another working E02 with spare USB slot), but couldn't mount it (the file system is not recognized.) It seems that the USB is corrupted. Under this circumstance, how can I recover my pogo? I don't mind starting the process again, but I need to get the ssh back. Thanks a lot!
