I did "sudo -s" before I started wget and tar so should have been OK?

From man sudo:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '-')s, --shell
Run the shell specified by the SHELL environment variable if it is set or the shell spec‐
ified by the invoking user's password database entry. If a command is specified, it is
passed to the shell for execution via the shell's -c option. If no command is specified,
an interactive shell is executed.

It is not the same as sudo su

Thanks moonman. Have repeated following your instructions precisely (albeit to a SATA HD) and all is working OK after a reboot.

Thanks again. Much appreciated - as is all the work you guys have done on getting the most out of these little boxes.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('noggin', 'H')mm - during the pacman update I got quite a few of the following errors :

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
usb 1-1 : device descriptor read/64 error -110
')

I guess this could be a dodgy USB stick?

I'll try with another one...

This may be the odd behavior I was talking about, not the flash drive

Thanks moonman. Will give it a try to confirm. However I wanted to end up booting from SATA, as I plan to use the USB port for a DVB tuner for TV Headend. In fact I built TV Headend from git last night, and first testing went quite well.
