Is there a pre-configured power management?

Postby ouchyoung » Tue Feb 11, 2014 2:28 pm

I am wondering whether there is a power management on ArchLinxuARM since my Goflex Home is supposed to be turned on 7 by 24. I know in the original firmware from Seagate, the hard disk stops spinning if it was not operated for some time. Since I noticed that my hard disk is spinning all the time. I want to figure out whether there is a similar mechanism embedded in ArchLinuxARM? Or is there a way for implementing it? Any help much appreciated!

Because your rootfs is on the spinning hard drive, it does have the tendency to stay spinning. There are multiple forum post regarding hdparm.

Thank you for your fast reply!

I just searched the forum and found some clue: the hdparm determines the working schedule of the HDD... And I just read through the post:

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=2167&hilit=spindown+hdparm+sdparm&start=40

It seems that I have to move my rootfs and swapfile to a USB drive... I use the only USB port for transferring files a lot... So I think I will leave the disk spinning till its lifespan is over :-(

Thank you WarheadsSE!
