installing "Java" for OpenHAB

Postby JJpogo » Sat May 17, 2014 5:42 pm

Hi,
I'd like to install OpenHAB on Pogoplug, but it needs Java to be installed first. I'm confused about all the different version of Java out there. There's something call OpenJDK that seems to pop up a lot when searching for Java for ALArm, but not the Oracle version of Java. The Oracle version of Java (version 7) is the one that works for the Raspberry Pi w/ OpenHAB. Maybe someone with more experience can point me in the right direction on which version of Java to use?

The Oracle java is said to be available on "AUR"...not sure what that means...do I not install it using the same syntax "pacman -S ____"?

The commands to install openJDK also don't seem to be working for me. This is what I've tried:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')pacman -S jre7-openjdk

error: failed retrieving file 'jre7-openjdk-7.u51_2.4.5-1-arm.pkg.tar.xz' from mirror.archlinuxarm.org : The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found
warning: failed to retrieve some files
error: failed to commit transaction (download library error)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Warheads, I googled "update index", but couldn't find anything. What does that mean? How do I update the index?
