Goflex Net wont boot after update

Postby tomcheng76 » Sat Mar 22, 2014 11:08 am

After today pacman -Syu, the box failed to startup, here are some log files after chroot

In fact during reboot, it said the systemd reboot service timeout failed, so i re-run pacman -Syu to make sure everything update and then reboot -f

I downgraded systemd, systemd-sysvcompat, util-linux, removed libsystemd using pacman cache, and it boots :)
How to debug the systemd problem ?

There is definitely an issue at hand, it isn't just something on your end.

I downgraded as you have and was able to get my GoFlex running again.

Thank you for the time being, I'll have to wait for someone wiser than myself to actually fix the issue with the upgrade.

I'm running on a Netgear Stora and had exactly the same problem. Just spent two days on a wild-goose chase trying to recompile my kernel thinking I'd missed a systemd requirement out. I still had this problem with the new kernel (having double-checked all systemd requirements).
I have now downgraded the packages you mentioned (except for util-linux which wouldn't go down - but apparently wasn't necessary) and its running properly again.
I'd always assumed pacman was great at downgrading packages as its great at everything else. From now on I'll take an LVM snapshot before updating just to be safe.

I added the following to anfo.service and transmission.service
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'After=network.target')

More importantly, i found pacman log error after trying re-installation
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[2014-03-24 14:27] [PACMAN] Running 'pacman -Syu'
[2014-03-24 14:27] [PACMAN] synchronizing package lists

[2014-03-24 14:28] [PACMAN] upgraded systemd-sysvcompat (210-3 -> 211-1)
')

Re-running the following
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -S util-linux libutil-linux')

Re-install systemd again
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -S libsystemd systemd systemd-sysvcompat')

Reboot using
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'systemctl reboot')

It works :o

Re: Goflex Net wont boot after update

Postby noggin » Sun Jun 01, 2014 5:20 pm

Just downloaded and installed a new rootfs (create an ext3 partition called "rootfs" and then tar the ArchLinuxARM-kirkwood-latest.tar.gz to the drive.) for my GoFlex Net.

Did this on an Ubuntu machine to rescue a previously-working system.

This then booted fine the first time on my GoFlex Net.

However after running pacman -Syu and rebooting the GoFlex Net doesn't reboot properly (flashing green light then no green light)

It's built into pacman to do a sync once it's finished it's job, but can you take the time to do again, but sync before reboot.
Also check uImage gets installed in the right place

I'm doing a fresh new install on a dockstar with new the new mainline u-boot on an ext4 partition using a 4GB pendisk.
After finishing installation I ran a Pacman -Syu and it upgraded a few packages and immediately I noticed a error/warning:

Mind you that my dockstar (re)boots up with no problems.
Can anybody help iron out this small issue?
Thanks in advance.

PS:
Weird. I have another dockstar on which I installed ALARM back in 2013 and looking at it's pacman.log I just noticed that it's been outputting the same error message:

So I guess the tarball back in July 2013 already had this error message.
