Can't reinstall on a new usb stick. Can't SSH.

Postby yazyazoo » Tue Aug 05, 2014 6:41 pm

I am trying to reinstall Arch on a Dockstar that I have. I think the original USB stick is corrupted and wanted to try and reinstall Arch on a new usb stick. With my E02 Pogoplugs I have been able to just remove the original USB stick with Arch and put a new one in and SSH and reinstall Arch.

However on the Dockstar, for some reason when I remove the original Arch install stick and place a new one in. I am not able to SSH into the Dockstar. If I put the original stick in I am able to SSH back into the Dockstar. Should I press the reset button on the Dockstar with a paperclip to try and reset it again?

Thanks.

Which rootfs tarball are you using?

I am not sure what rootfs tarball I installed.

I followed the Dockstar wiki on the front page about a 3-4 weeks ago.

The only tar I see is at the step:

tar -zxvf ArchLinuxARM-kirkwood-latest.tar.gz -C alarm

Also during installation the wiki seemed to be missing some steps or maybe I installed it wrong. During untarring it said I had errors from no space.

I had to mkdir /tmp/alarm
mount /tmp/alarm
the untar to get it to work.

then unmounted /tmp/alarm.

I have been getting some errors on sabnzbd and feel it might be from a corrupted usb stick. I want to reinstall but can't seem to get the new stick and Dockstar to be seen on SSH.

Thanks.

Okay, if your uboot has an older uboot, it will not boot the kernel from that. You need to grab the armv5te-latest, then upgrade your uboot to use the newer kernel.

WarheadsSE,
Ok can you tell me if I am in the right direction? I am looking at this forum and there is a thread called Mainline Boot. From reading the Main post it seems that I need to update by using this command?

pacman -Sy uboot-dockstar

So I had this Dockstar for over a year and had Arch running on it. Then about a month ago I got another USB stick and re-installed using the directions in the Dockstar Wiki. For some reason I don't think this stick is working that well and that is why I am trying to reinstall again with a different usb stick.

So if that is the correct command to update the uboot where else would I need to grab the armv5te-latest? I am not that great at Linux but I do like to learn usually thru trial and error.

Thanks.

I tried to reinstall with new new link for the newest version. Now I can't SSH in even with the original stick. What can I do now to even try and fix this?

Are there going to be new instructions on the wiki for each Platform on how to install? I have some Pogo e02 that I am now afraid of bricking. Why aren't the wiki updated when something major like this happens?
