HDD >2 TB NSA325v2

Postby xChr1s » Wed Sep 17, 2014 6:25 pm

Hello,

i have installed ArchLinux like it is described here: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/zyxel-nsa325
I was able to use a 3TB HDD for installing the ArchLinux, but now I'm not able to use 1TB.

[root@NSA325-ALARM /]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/root 2.0T 885M 1.9T 1% /
devtmpfs 250M 0 250M 0% /dev
tmpfs 250M 0 250M 0% /dev/shm
tmpfs 250M 368K 249M 1% /run
tmpfs 250M 0 250M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
tmpfs 250M 0 250M 0% /tmp
tmpfs 50M 0 50M 0% /run/user/0

Command (? for help): p
Disk /dev/sda: 5860533168 sectors, 2.7 TiB
Logical sector size: 512 bytes
Disk identifier (GUID): F4700521-891A-4E9D-9D98-6752C4FE3BA3
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 5860533134
Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
Total free space is 1565571479 sectors (746.5 GiB)

Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
1 63 48194 23.5 MiB 8300 Linux filesystem
2 48195 4294961684 2.0 TiB 8300 Linux filesystem

What could be done, to use the other 1TB?

Best Regards,
Chris

This is probably because of the MBR.

You can move to a hybrid protected MBR .. but you need to be careful.

Hi,

i have already switched to hybrid mbr.

[root@NSA325-ALARM ~]# gdisk /dev/sda
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.10

Partition table scan:
MBR: hybrid
BSD: not present
APM: not present
GPT: present

Found valid GPT with hybrid MBR; using GPT.

But still just 2TB usable...

1. What partitions did you add to MBR table when you created hybrid? There should only be 1 partition: the one that contains the kernel. Try with GPT before and after MBR. IIRC it only worked for me on GFH when GPT was placed after MBR.

2. When fdisk create partitions initially it might have only created a partition to the max it supports, which is 2.2TB. So what you might need to do is expand the second partition to the full size of the hdd.

I have done it in that way:

Command (? for help): r

Recovery/transformation command (? for help): h

WARNING! Hybrid MBRs are flaky and dangerous! If you decide not to use one,
just hit the Enter key at the below prompt and your MBR partition table will
be untouched.

Type from one to three GPT partition numbers, separated by spaces, to be
added to the hybrid MBR, in sequence: 1
Place EFI GPT (0xEE) partition first in MBR (good for GRUB)? (Y/N): n

Creating entry for GPT partition #1 (MBR partition #1)
Enter an MBR hex code (default 83):
Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): y

Unused partition space(s) found. Use one to protect more partitions? (Y/N): n

Recovery/transformation command (? for help): w

Final checks complete. About to write GPT data. THIS WILL OVERWRITE EXISTING
PARTITIONS!!

Do you want to proceed? (Y/N): y
OK; writing new GUID partition table (GPT).
The operation has completed successfully.

That could be. How I could expand the partition?
