Pogoplug v4 - no Ethernet after pacman -Syu / reinstall

Postby LouCypher » Fri Jul 10, 2015 7:28 am

I hadn't done an update in awhile, so today I logged in via SSH.

pacman -Sc
pacman -Syu

Several updates were found, all seemed to install without issue or errors. As znc was one of the updated packages, I shutdown the daemon. Then I did a 'reboot' and the SSH disconnected as it appeared the Pogoplug rebooted. Afterwards the router status showed the Ethernet as inactive and I could no longer connect.

I formatted another USB drive FAT32, created a "revert" folder, plugged it into the Pogoplug and powered up. This worked to revert back to default firmware.

Tried to reinstall:
Used "backdoor" from Qui's blog to enable SSH.$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'curl -k "https://root:ceadmin@[PogoplugIPAddress]/sqdiag/HBPlug?action=command&command=dropbear%20start";')
Followed install instructions but got the$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'wget: short write')error so I used haiku's method$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')on't worry, just reformat your usb drive and then mount it as /tmp/alarm.
cd to /tmp/alarm and wget http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM ... est.tar.gz
 Don't use bsdtar but use tar -xzvf ArchLinuxARM-kirkwood-latest.tar.gz in place.
continue the guide..

Everything seemed to go smoothly, but I still have no connectivity.

Am I experiencing a similar issue as described in this thread? My Pogoplug didn't have a static IP before, but my router always assigned it the same IP based on MAC.

Right now I have a Pogoplug that won't run with ArchLinux that was working fine before I did the updates, and still doesn't work with the "latest" image.

Tried reinstalling with a different USB drive, no different. For now I'm stuck with a Pogoplug with a solid green light that doesn't appear to be leasing an IP from the DHCP on my router. Unless I "revert" back to default firmware I can't do anything with it. I don't have a serial cable, so I guess I'm just out of luck for now.

not necessarily. check the journal by taking your drive and hooking it up to a linux machine with systemd running. then it's just a matter of doing journalctl --directory /media/var/log/journal/whatever. check what networkd says.

you should consider installing the arch recovery system to your pogoplug.
