Recover bricked dockstar using a dockstar?

Postby pentolino » Mon Oct 03, 2011 3:22 pm

Hi,
I found the tutorials to access the serial port of the dockstar using a Nokia telephone cable but I was wondering: since I have another 2 dockstars at home can I directly connect like this, swapping the RX and TX pins:
Dock 1 RX TX GND
Dock 2 TX RX GND

to try to recover the bricked 3rd dockstar? What would I need for that? Has anyone tried this? I'm good at software but really a newbie at electronics, soldering and such, so I would like to reduce this to the bare minimun necessary.

Thanks for any advice you may provide.

Since the dockstars use ttyS0 for their console output, I would suggest against tying them directly together. You'be better using the CA-42 cable from one to the other.

It should work just flipping RX and TX between the two.

Thanks for you feedback, I think I would be in unknown ground connecting the two serial ports together; I guess that if none tried this with success I will stick with the proven CA-42 (or similar) way.
