v2 power off and light on hdd

Postby Dima85 » Thu Sep 13, 2012 8:36 am

Turn off the pogoplug:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'shutdown -h now')
But my usb hard disk light is lit. Is this normal?

Does it happen if hdd is attached to the computer? Maybe it's just the power LED and it tells you hdd is powered, and not necessarily being accessed?

One can't switch power off on Pogo 2 type devices by any command. The above command results only in its proc halt. Your USB Enclosure remains powered since the Pogo USB port stays powered too until you detach Pogo's adapter cable. This is my experience with Dockstar, test using power management tools.

True. You can also look at the ethernet port and see the light flashing. :D

You'll have to check yourself. My hard drives power down automatically when plug is shutdown with that command.

I concurred with moonman. The power is still there, but the hard disk is shutdown by the above command. Only way to completely turn off power is to pull the plug. So my guess also is the light on the enclosure is just power indicator.

The HD stops spinning, but its board remains powered. It has a separate board from USB enclosure board, which also remains powered. Try using power management tools (Laptop Mode Tools, pm-utils) to shut down power to the Pogo USB port and let us know what you accomplished.

The Pogo's usb ports are hard-wired to the power supply. Laptop tools etc will not help you.

In this case, if one wants to keep Pogo up and running for other purposes than media streaming, just wait until your HD stops spinning (you can feel its vibration by touching the enclosure) and switch off power to the drive enclosure.
