[Solved] Pogoplug Mobile bricked after first reboot?

Postby skywiselh » Tue May 06, 2014 1:07 am

So I followed the instructions for the V4 unit and installed successfully, but after the first time unplugging the unit it is now stuck on flashing green - with or without the USB stick attached. No IP requested via DHCP.

Is this a matter of the V4 instructions bricking the Mobile unit every time or am I just unlucky? I guess the magic question is - does this actually work properly on the Mobile V4 units for anyone or should I get a refund and look at a less-DIY NAS solution?

Thanks!

Your USB drive is probably corrupted (from a unsafe power down).

Follow moonman's instructions to resetup your usb drive - viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3312&p=19207#p19207

BTW, once you update the boot loader on the V4/mobile you can not boot back into the default Pogoplug OS.

Thanks for the responses. I did search the forum and not only this one, which lead to the confusion on how suitable the device is. I appreciate the clarification, especially in regards to the device not being able to operate at all without the usb drive attached.

I did successfully (I think) rebuild the rootfs on a few different sticks (using a raspberry pi as it was the easiest linux with an usb port I had) without any success. It is possible that I damaged the uboot during trying to revert, replacement is on the way.

Question - how common is the file system corruption, especially is using an actual hard drive instead of a usb flash drive?

Thanks! I bookmarked that just in case - actually happen to have that exact 3.3v serial to usb adapter floating around here somewhere. Got my replacement today and gonna install archlinux on it now. :?

And it had the exact same result - I want thru the install instructions very carefully and everything worked perfectly until I reboot the device and now it is again stuck on green flashing.

Is it possible that there was a mfg update to the uboot that makes it incompatible with the current version of ArchLinux for the Pogoplug V4? I will hook up my serial adapter and see if I can figure out what went wrong, but I usually don't ***** up twice in a row. :(

Try a different flash drive. Otherwise we will need to see the boot log.

Edit: Ahhh, I switched around the RX and TX and suddenly it talks to me ;) . Maybe I should not do this at 4am in the morning. I'll play around with the unit, but ALARM seems to be there and complaining about a lack of USB stick - we'll see what we can do tomorrow.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')So I have connected the internal serial port to a CP2101 USB to TTL adapter, set my terminal to 115200/8/1/N/N and absolutely nothing shows in the serial console. I can see the light no the TTL adapter flash when I change the port speed, but other than that there's nothing. No network flashing either, only the green light and silence.

Any suggestions? Oh and I went thru a bunch of different flash drives & usb hard drives, but at this point this may become the second return to Amazon.
