$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'c')ron will execute the command I rpovided every 15 minutes so the hdd will spin down. It will spin up when you want to access it automatically.

This is great. What should I install besides sdparm?
Thanks for your help!

Nothing else is required. You can make it 5 min or 30 min as well by swapping 15 to 5 or 30

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'N')othing else is required. You can make it 5 min or 30 min as well by swapping 15 to 5 or 30

I tried it last night. It did spin down the drive. it however spin it up by itself right after that. I guess it's because the drive is system drive (Boot Entirely from SATA) and has some kind of services are accessing the drive constantly. Any solutions? Thanks.

That is exactly why. You probably have swap on there as well...

I have not tried this as I have OS installed on 2.5" drive with 3.5" spinning down ever 15 min, but this was suggested in this thread earlier. You would need to "pacman -Sy laptop-mode-tools" and then read here to configure: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/La ... Hard_disks (also see the configuration section, it explains how to start daemon @ boot: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/La ... figuration)

Thanks. Actually I did that already and it did not really help. The laptop-mode uses hdparm to spin down the hard drive as well. I guess the only way is to figure out what process is access the hard drive. I don't know how. By the way, i stopped the syslog deamon but no help.

If you have swap enabled, that's one. Otherwise, the use of `lsof` will tell you what is open, and I believe by whom.

No I did not setup swap. I'll try 'lsof'. Thanks.
