$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('etzbseder', '-')v login 169.254.144.166 root/root -v

Is it the command you type?

It sould rather be:
ssh -v root@169.254.144.166

then it will ask you for the password, just press enter if it is blank

That wouldn't work. It timed out and now all i get is blinking green light on my GFN. It no longer shows up in my router as having an IP either.

My router shows that "alarm" has the DHCP ip of 10.0.1.21, so I tried that and got this.

OpenSSH_5.6p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8r 8 Feb 2011
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh_config
debug1: Applying options for *
debug1: Connecting to 10.0.1.14 [10.0.1.14] port 22.

Then it just times out. I have tried a few other options to get in and none work. I now have the solid green light on my go flex net, but it won't work.

I got it all figured out. Now I have some new problems. I need to know what packages to install (and how to install them) to run an ftp and web server off of this drive.

Also, the drive I installed ArchLinux on has a lot of empty space on it that I wanted to make into usable space, and don't know how.

When I try to start proftp I get this message

:: Starting ProFTPd Server [BUSY]
Seagate_GoFlex_Net proftpd[554]: mod_tls/2.4.3: compiled using OpenSSL version 'OpenSSL 1.0.0f 4 Jan 2012' headers, but linked to OpenSSL version 'OpenSSL 1.0.0g 18 Jan 2012' library
Seagate_GoFlex_Net proftpd[554]: warning: unable to determine IP address of 'Seagate_GoFlex_Net'
Seagate_GoFlex_Net proftpd[554]: error: no valid servers configured
Seagate_GoFlex_Net proftpd[554]: Fatal: error processing configuration file '/etc/proftpd.conf'

how did you solve your problems?

for the first warning, you have to add a line to your /etc/hosts
for the second one, there must be an error in your config file, as stated.

I suggest you pure-ftpd as an ftp server, but you have the choice

How do I know what local host and domain to give it? I will want to give it the domain I purchased, but I need it set up with web server too.

I have samba up and running but I have no access to my SATA drives. I have archlinux installed on a usb plugged in to it that is partitioned, but I can't see the second partition either.
