$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'N')ot a problem.

The boot loaders are in NAND, so that's not an issue.

You will want to use a tar command to extract the rootfs to the base of the newly formatted USB drive.

Got it...just a couple more quick questions, since you'll likely be offline by the time I get home and can try this.

First, I'm downloading from this page, yes? http://archlinuxarm.org/developers/downloads (Obviously the first link for the ARMv5te that is in the first pink and white Pogoplug.)

Second, I simply untar, plug into the Pogoplug and it should boot? Update and then copy over whatever config files I may need from what I backed up?

Oh, Iied, third question: I still need to use ext2 when I reformat the drive, yes? No other format will work?

Thanks MUCH!!

Yes, yes, Ext3 might work.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'Y')es, yes, Ext3 might work.

I reformatted with Ext2 just to be safe. I tar'd the rootfs and nothing. The orange light goes on for a minute or two, then goes off and cycles like that over and over. The light on the hard drive flickers as if something is happening, but it never gets an IP address at the router.

Anything else I can try?

Ah, I forgot a step. You need to label that partition "rootfs", all lowercase.

You can do this from a terminal, via 'tune2fs -L "rootfs" /dev/sdX#', where X is the drive letter and # is 1. I just didn't want you copy/pasting.

There is likely a clean way to do this from a GUI in ubuntu as well.

None of this has worked. I've tried repeatedly thinking I made a mistake somewhere but the pogoplug never boots. If nothing else I'd like to restore my pogoplug and start from scratch. I can't seem to find a tutorial for a pogoplug that doesn't boot. If it won't boot into can't ssh in to change anything.

Any pointers to a clear and complete tutorial would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Did you untar the rootfs as root? (sudo su, NOT sudo)

None...didn't know it made a difference. I'll try it tonight.

Thanks.

Hey Warhead,

Sorry to bump up this post but I'm struggling to get my pogoplug series 4 booting again. I decided to buy a series 4 to play with instead of sticking with the OMAP pogoplugs. It was working great until one day someone decided to take the usb drive I was using in the pogoplug. Now, it just refuses to boot into Archlinux arm and the indicator light in the front just keeps on flashing even with a fresh install of the rootfs. I've tried everything from using the usb port, to using SATA port on top. I also formatted multiple usb drives to ext2 and ext3. I notice you mentioned to rename the label on the partition to rootfs and i tried that too. Am I missing something critical that I'm suppose to be doing? Would I be better off recovering it to the original pogoplug cloud firmware and restarting the whole process over?

Flash Drive format: ext2
HDD format: ext3
Partition label: "rootfs"
Untar as root. Aka sudo su. Just sudo does not work
