Well, replace is the correct word.

So the net question is, can I downgrade back to 3.1.10-13 (by doing "pacman -Rsn linux-kirkwood") if I need to after applying the 3.6.4-1 Linux-Kirkwood package?

When I finish installing the linux-kirkwood package the following is displayed:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
>>> Updating module dependencies. Please wait ...
**********************************************************************
WARNING! This kernel requires a newer U-Boot than many devices such as
the Dockstar and Pogoplug v2 originally came with. If you do
not have an updated version, your system WILL NOT BOOT.
**********************************************************************
')

Where do I get the new U-Boot?

Yo have the V4. You're okay. Our (the one supplied by Arch Linux ARM) doesn't have this limitation.

I can report that using linux-kirkwood 3.6.4-1 I can now successfully mount 4TB HFS+ hard drives. With journaling turned off the hard drives even mount R/W. I was ready to create 2TB partitions but now I don't have to do that. Thank you all that responded for your help.

Glad it worked for you. Yet another reason to upgrade the kernel. :)

@WarheadsSE so PPv4's U-Boot has L2cache disabled. From all armv5 devices are there any that still don't have a "new" U-Boot?

@moonman:
It depends on the device's uboot :) Some come with it disabled, some don't. Some don't even have the problem!
