What makes you think it booted off of sata? If you set it to boot from USB first and you had both sata and usb inserted then it read the kernel from the USB drive, but is using the sata drive as rootfs. Unplug the USB drive and see if it works. I doubt it will since it didn't before. There must be something with your hybrid mbr. Have you answered 'NO' to "'Place EFI GPT partition first" when you were in gdisk?

Yes you have to answer "no" for it to work. You seem to be going in circles. Figure out 1 thing at a time.
