$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('bz31', 'A')rchlinux, not Debian.
There is no initrd after kernel upgrade.

oh so you updated the kernel before you reboot?
I didn't update kernel, so there is still old kernel and old initrd in there, I wanted to update after reboot.

Should I try pacman -Sy linux-kirkwood right after flash new uboot, before rebooting?

No. After reboot.
I followed the instructions provided by moonman.

i think the reason is the ramdisk which comes with UBIT v0.6 always failed to find the rootfs so that the GoFlex booted into initramfs. (under the new uboot), not sure why it won't happen under ubit.
According to http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,5073,5295, one ugly solution is just delete the uinitrd. would this cause any future problem?

It isn't an ugly solution since ArchLinux arm does not use initrd at all. That's why I told you to delete it. Unless you are using the corner case described in the OP (with a provided uInitrd) you don't need it.

The ubit install seems to messed up my rootfs with initrd, init, etc, so I finally erase the old partition, and re-extracted the archlinuxarm rootfs, and everything worked fine. Does this mean now I can do pacman -Syu with no worries?
Thank you for your guide!

If you want to run newer kernels and you are comfortable taking the steps outlined then why not. But also be ready to do some troubleshooting if something goes wrong, though if you follow the steps precisely you shouldn't have any problems. Also if something seems not right, don't reboot, better come back here and ask.
