hmm yeah I always do tar -xzvf with root. I just cant seem to figure out where I'm going wrong :(. I've installed a new rootfs successfully on the same machine before. For some reason, it refuses to work anymore.

EDIT: So I decided to change the firmware to stock on the pogoplug. I did what the main site suggests which is to make a folder called revert and everything will be taken care of. I tried doing this method and the red light never comes on and the blinking just continues. Is there another method I can try to make it work? I still have a serial cable that was used for my pogoplug v3. Is there a serial port for this machine also?

EDIT2: FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK!! For some reason the Series 4 (at least mine) only reads sandisk flashdrives. Tried over 4 brands and it still didn't work until I tried a sandisk flash drive. The first one I used originally when it was working was sandisk also.

It's been awhile since I've had a chance to give work on this. The sudo su bit was just what was missing. I can boot into Arch on the Pogoplug, but now I'm getting a weird error regarding sudo.

[root@alarm ~]# sudo
sudo: unable to stat /etc/sudoers: Permission denied
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
sudo: unable to initialize policy plugin

I've uncommented the line for the wheel group (which I'm a member of) and even explicity added my user account, but no matter what, even logged in as root, I get that error.

Any advice?

Re-install sudo.
pacman -Sy sudo

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'R')e-install sudo.
pacman -Sy sudo

Thanks for the response, however, nothing changed. I still get the same error. I've searched for hours and this has happened to others, but there's never a resolution or fix listed.

Again, this is a fresh install (just reinstalled the rootfs an hour ago), went through the "first steps" guide and I'm stuck.

UPDATE: Further hunting made mention of a possible problem with permissions on /. I changed them with "chmod 755 /". Sudo now works as expected. Any reason to believe that I've done something wrong? Or an idea of why this would happen on a fresh rootfs install?
